Rerun

Restore a backup on a new phone

You need a backup file from your old phone. Rerun saves its backups in the folder chosen under Settings > Backup folder. Their names start with Rerun_Backup_ or Rerun_AutoBackup_, then the date, and end in .zip.

Steps

  1. Install Rerun from Google Play and open it.
  2. On the empty Today screen, tap Moving from another phone? Restore a backup.
  3. Your phone's file picker opens. Go to the backup folder and choose the newest file.
  4. Rerun checks the file. A backup made by an older version of Rerun may be locked with a password. If Rerun asks for one, type the password that was set on the old phone.
  5. Tap Restore. A large backup from Google Drive can take several minutes. Keep Rerun open until it says Restore successful.

Your entries, photos and recordings come back. The backup folder and the app lock do not, so set them again on the new phone in Settings (the gear at the top of Today). You can choose the same backup folder as before.

Already written something on the new phone?

The restore line on Today goes away after the first entry. Use Settings > Restore instead. To keep what is already on the phone, tick Merge with existing data before you tap Restore. If you leave it unticked, the backup replaces everything on the phone.

Asked for a password you don't remember?

Only backups made by older versions of Rerun have a password, and nobody can recover a forgotten one, including the developer. Rerun no longer locks its backups, so look in the backup folder for a newer file and try that one: it won't ask.
